General credits Hampton University's ROTC program for leadership skills

U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Darrell K. Williams never planned to join the ROTC.
Williams, one of nine children, arrived at the then-named Hampton Institute in fall 1979 with just enough money scrounged up to make it through a year of college. Looking for a way to continue his studies, he joined the ROTC program and secured a scholarship. From there, he said, his unexpected path unfurled before him. Read more
