U.S. Army Talks Post-Secondary Success at 2016 National School Boards Association Annual Conference

On April 9-11, 2016, the U.S. Army sponsored the 2016 National School Boards Association (NSBA) Conference in Boston, MA. The U.S. Army’s participation is part of the strong and ongoing partnership with NSBA. More than 5,000 school board members from across the country attended the event and interacted with Army education leaders in the Army’s exhibit booth and via a series of speaking engagements.

The U.S. Army hosted an exhibit space designed to highlight STEM education and careers. The exhibit showcased educational videos, such as “Your Future U.S. Army Career.”

The U.S. Army Cadet Command and U.S. Army Recruiting Command lead two “study hall” sessions and two collaborative workshops. The U.S. Army hosted these interactive sessions with conference attendees – school board members, superintendents, and parents – to discuss the Army’s commitment to education and career training.

Attendees learned about March2Success, the Army’s free SAT/ACT test preparation tool, as well as ROTC scholarships, U.S. Army leadership best practices, and how the attributes of the Army’s Performance Triad can be connected to our Nation’s youth, their health and ability to learn and develop throughout life—physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Additionally, the Army sponsored the National Black Council of School Board Members Luncheon. During the program, Brigadier General Donna Martin, Deputy Commanding General, U.S. Army Recruiting Command, addressed more than 300 luncheon attendees, discussing the shared mission of the Army and educators to enhance students educational opportunities and provide the support, access and resources needed in order to succeed.

The NSBA Annual Conference brings together education leaders at a time when domestic policies and global trends are combining to shape the future of all students.
